Winter Wonderland

Richmond has been hit harder with snow in the past 14 months than in the past 14 years! Another storm hit this weekend (why can't it hit mid-week?) and we're expected to get up to 14 inches. The pics I took below were at about 1pm and we already had about 7-8 inches. Curt is in PA this weekend so it's just me and the hounds enjoying this winter wonderland. I got a great video of Star and Bullwinkle. Enjoy!

For the Love of Cabins

Many of you remember our love of cabins, and our dream home we got to tour last year:


Well until we can buy our dream home, I'm starting to look for items to redo our bedroom - "cabin" style. And I don't mean a camouflage comforter with deer antlers hanging over the bed (much to Curt's dismay), I mean a trendy, classy, homey, rustic cabin theme. There is so much cool decor out there, but for some reason I keep coming back to pine cones.

This is what started it. I searched everywhere for a classy cabin comforter, and this Luxury Black Pine Cone Bedding is by far my favorite. It is a simple design that incorporates an embroidered pine cone trim around the black suede comforter. Can you say, SNUGGLE?


What's a classy cabin without a chandelier? Especially one with pine cones? I love this piece.


Of course the bed frame is important for the theme. I'm a fan of the traditional logs frames:


This just made me laugh. A pine cone toilet brush. Who says toilet bowl brushes can't join in the fun?


And to top it all off - you're going to love this one - is the wallpaper. Normally when somebody says wallpaper I cringe, but IF it is used tastefully, I believe it can add a lot of character to a room. My example is below. Believe it or not, it is log wallpaper. Now I don't know if I'd go through every room in my house and line it floor to ceiling with this stuff (I'll have to wait until the REAL log cabin for that), but perhaps doing one accent wall of the bedroom might give it a cool look. Hey all you interior designers out there, what do you think?


The exciting news is our cabin collections have already begun! For Christmas, my awesome sister-in-law got us the cutest little "Welcome" bear to keep outside/inside our house. (Thanks, Kari!) I quickly found him a home by our front door:

One Year Later

And ... we're back! I realize it has been almost a year since my last blog post. Facebook has taken over my photo-uploading and status-updating time so I pretty much gave up on the blog. But going back through it, I realized what a neat little package of memories this blog is. (And my sister-in-law Kari keeps asking me when I'm going to update it. This post is dedicated to you, Kari!) So, as a New Years Resolution, I promise to make an effort of more blogging in 2010. In the meantime, here's a quick year-in-review for what Curt and I have been up to these past 11 months ...

For Easter, we headed north to Boston for a long-weekend (and long-overdue) visit with my Uncle Dean, Aunt Kristina, Grandpa (mom's dad) and Cousin Hillary.





Over the summer, Curt and I went on several kayaking excursions, and found a wonderful 5-hour float down the James River for the first time.



In August, I finally launched my Novus Creative website. This is where I send potential graphic design freelancing clients to view my portfolio, as well as update my clients on new projects and specials from the link to my Novus Creative blog. Click here to check out my website!



In September, Curt and I headed to Pennsylvania for the first Fallecker Family Reunion in over a decade. Below is Curt with his great uncles, Paul and Clete, and my mother- and father-in-law dancing to the beat.




In October, we headed out west to California to visit with my brother, sister-in-law, and the rest of my wonderful Cali family. We have SO many incredible photos from the trip, which you'll have to join Facebook to view, but I just wanted to post one awesome pic of us with most of my Cali fam.



What's Thanksgiving without a good run? I've decided to make it a tradition that every Thanksgiving we stay in town, I run the Turkey Trot 10K. It was fun, challenging, and gave me a good excuse to eat tons of food later on with Mom, Mitch and Curt.



December was full of Christmas Lights Fun Runs (I dressed up and ran with a groups through the city and neighborhoods to view the Christmas lights), the Rockettes in Richmond (front row!), and Curt and I's annual Christmas Picture Photo Shoot. Dad and Doris came up from North Carolina for the holiday, and we spent Christmas Eve with my third cousin and family, Donna, Gerry, and Carolyn, who live just around the corner from us.






So here we are in January 2010, and the big news this month is the birth of our new niece, Abigail Grace Fallecker (aka Abby). She was born on January 13, weighed in at 6lbs 11oz, and she, mom, and dad are doing great. Here are a few pics of the little angel with her dad (Curt's brother, Mike) and grandma and grandpa (Curt's parents) ...
