Christmas Party & Ring-n-Run

We went to a Christmas party with some of our business friends last Saturday night and had an absolute blast. It was a catered dinner and then later in the evening we took a whole bunch of gifts that we had bought and dropped it off on needy families' doorsteps, rang the bell, and ran. Here you'll see some fun pics from us just hanging out. Notice all the presents!!! (We bought stuff for two families, and plan on doing more families next year.)

The story behind this pic is that the photographer said to strike a funny pose, so I did and nobody else heard her!

Many of you asked about the details of our Ring-n-Run! Well, the story goes like this. We went to different churches to find some needy families, but none of the churches wanted to give out addresses. So a friend Caryn happened to be talking to a girl at the gym one day, and the girl was a social worker. Caryn told the social worker what we wanted to do, and the girl agreed to help us out and gave us the names, addresses, and "wish lists" of two families.

It turned out the first family wasn't home - the mom was working and her son was with her, so we brought all the gifts to her sister's house instead. But the second family WAS home. We put a whole bunch of trash bags full of presents, foods, goodies, etc. on the doorstep, rang the doorbell, and ran to our cars. We sat in the cars (there were three SUVs full of us) until a light came on in the bedroom. A woman peeked out the window, then OPENED the window. We all started shouting "Merry Christmas! Look at your doorstep!" So she peered over the window sill and as soon as she saw all the presents, she slammed the window shut and went running to her door. She opened the front door as we pulled away, and she just hollered out, "Thank you!!!" We talked to the social worker the next day, and she said both of the families ripped open all the gifts that night and didn't wait until Christmas. :) It was one of the most fun things I've ever done!

Clifford

So you're probably asking, "What is Alison doing with Clifford, the Big Red Dog?" Some of my friends and I set up a booth at the Walk for Obesity to sample some of our healthy food and drink products. The walk was aimed toward children, so there were several "mascots" walking around, including Clifford. I just happen to get a photo op with him. :)

ps It was COOOOOOOLD this morning!

Melody's Baby Shower

My friend Melody from work is due on November 15! We had her baby shower on Saturday ... here are a few pics. (She's having a boy - Isaac Scott Deshaies.) We played games like baby bingo, guess what candy is in the diaper, who can drink from an infant's bottle the fastest (no pics of that one!), etc.

TWO YEARS!

We celebrated our 2-year anniversary a few days early by taking a half day off work and driving down to Norfolk for a seafood dinner and Cirque Du Soleil!

Dinner was amazing - crab dip, crab cakes, king crab legs. :) And then the show was absolutely phenomenal. (Click here for info about Saltimbanco.) We weren't allowed to bring our camera into the colliseum, so we had our picture taken outside after the show using my camera phone. Here we are ...

It's so hard to believe that it will be TWO YEARS in just a few days! Time flies when you're having fun, and it gets better every single day. :)

Ode to the Corn

Oh precious cornstalks
Once so high and concealing
No road to be seen
through your luscious husks
Why thou art leave us?

Terrible tractor
ripping away our covering
baring our white siding
for all the driver-bys to see
Naked
is how we feel without you
dear cornstalks

We will forever remember you
Oh reason we got this house
'Til the farmer comes again next year
We will forever remember you
